/date command

I would like to request a date command, similar to time, why? Because it will help with events, and I have some ideas for an event but hard to do without people using old photos. This could help with Joshy's challenges too. This could be in preferences and possibly shown before the actual place of the time display. Perhaps keep it simple and short, like DD/MM/YEAR.

mick88

it's easy to make it, but difficult to make it work well due to different timezones.

I don't know much, if anything, about scripting so I'm not sure how hard it would be to configure it. Maybe there's an add on or mod that would do it, I dunno.

It Could be useful. You could wire it in with the time command. BUT the player would have to set the date.

Base it on the IP address they are connected with.

I know that, but each country has a time zone, explains itself from there.

I know which player is in which timezone, because they can set it in their /preferences. The problem is changing date for them.
When it's 2am on 1st Jan in Dublin, what date is it in New York? It's completely different day, month AND year. I'd have to script it all including leap years to guess what date is in your timezone. It's a lot of work and I don't have time to play around with this right now.
I COULD make a /date command that will show current server date, but it will often show wrong date fro players from Asia, New Zealand and other countries on the opposite part of the globe.

Then its useless even if the script is made, so i dont think there is need to waste time when its already known that its gonna display wrong time for Asians. (and other countries)

Even that would be acceptable I think. It would probably help with events too that go by server time and date as well as help with events. I say yes if it's easy to do for you mick then maybe later if you feel like trying for everyone's actual date you could. I hope you do cause I have events ready but can't really do them without having a date stamp in the ss.  ;)
