got new hardware, had to reinstall windows, reinstalled SA, running under XP SP2 compatibilty with original DVD disk and it wont run at all.
this is the error message I get when I have to close it... I also get a message saying windows themes have been set to windows basic temporarily. any help? and yes I have tried the no crack exe but cant remember if I need a vorbis thing.

SAMP wont open either....
Did you try it without compatibility mode? You didn't mention your OS either.
Try re-installing it as admin (right click disc via my computer > explore > right click setup.exe > run as admin), or have you already tried that?
compatibility mode with windows XP SP2, 3, windows 95, 98, 2000, vista SP 1 2, windows server.. every psooibility has been done, deleted the gta.set if one is made, ran as admin, install as admin I even made a administrator user account since I read on GTA forums thats helped someone..
my original windows 7 home premium (build 7600)... reinstalled windows 7 premium cam with SP1, (build 7601). Ill take a video of it with my phone tomorrow... I have tried 3 different exes, (no cd, hoodlum, "compact"), no change.. Calvin suggested installing video card beta drivers and that worked for about 2 minutes, and now i am back to it now working
What does it do when you start it? what is the error message saying? and does samp work?

It doesn't say anything, just a black screen is blinking then closes.

I'm sure it's graphics related (not driver, but some compatibility thing).

This made for enb 0.248 crash fixing, but the job it's doing may help you too. (it cleans every gtasa "setting" from registry which can cause graphics related error or crash)
im going to restart, search and delete all instances of san andreas except for my mods I was using, restarting, going to try that thing you gave me nyolc, restart and then reinstall gta original version from dvd, restart, reply here..
What does work on your computer? Do any other games work?
ETS2 works.. 18 WOS ALH works.. I need to install grid and grid 2, they probably work really good. Raceroom experience will probably work better.

if so try switching the theme in personalize to classic or windows basic and try launching again.
windows 7 tries to do this automatically but sometimes it causes problems

i do too i did downgrade gta sa steam version to 1.0 and installed samp changed gta_sa to gta_sa x when you downgrade you get GTA_SA and samp change to gta_sa and when you open it via steam gta sa it will open samp and it will say you are in gta_sa on steam i get crash because i dont have all files from gta_sa downgrade is 20mb or more but all files are 1,5gb if i am not wrong

I have turned off every available option imaginable and every combination possible (that I could think of and by looking on websites) then trying to load it, nothing changed. and yes, all possible graphic, network, USB, PCI, etc..etc.. drivers are up to date.. I even download windows xp mode and virtual pc.
I honestly think it has to do with something in SP1, which (I swear) I dont think I had before reinstallation

ok.. I will try that tomorrow considering I bought GTA complete pack on steam
installing now.. lets hope this works

You could simply download win7 with crack and burn to disc and reinstall ur windows..

You want to buy a harddrive just because gtasa not running? It's obviously not a hardware problem since everything else works for you. Did you try to install another graphics card driver? Also, did you install any driver for the display/monitor itself? Or it just runs with stock windows display driver?
I want to buy a new drive to install windows on because I dont think I have enough room on my external drive to save everything I have currently on my hard drive. I can then install windows on that drive, maybe 40GB- 80GB drive for less then $50.. perhaps a 32-64 GB SSD.
why would I install a different graphics driver to the one I actually have at the moment?, and yes I installed a monitor driver that came with it. I dont think it runs from the stock windows driver.
i will try hobos method later as my sister is in the hospital and we have my nieces over, no real time to 'work' on this while they are here.
I had a similar issue (almost same symptoms as you) when I replaced my monitor with another one, then I fixed the issue (it's in the linked topic) then it happened again when I replaced monitor back and needed to fix it again: http://www.forum.convoytrucking.net/index.php?topic=42457.0 (http://www.forum.convoytrucking.net/index.php?topic=42457.0)
So this is why I asked the monitor driver. Somehow that messed up the game for me when it's driver changed by the monitor replacing. I would say try to mess with your monitor driver, try to use stock windows driver.
rolled back to windows generic monitor, deleted any software related to it, restarted..
I am able to finally play single player, but when I try SAMP, I get a weird load screen, goes into single player and crashes. Also when I load CT, it shows up as retrieving info.
It fucking worked!!!! something with my monitor and/or software related... I can open up SP but I have no mouse control (dont know why) but I can play SAMP again....
Found this about mouse not working, I think I remember I had that problem before when I first started samp, but dont remember how I fixed it xD

I fixed SP mouse issue.. I dont know how nor what I did, and I connected last night so I am back... the only "mod" I want (to use) is the draw distance and I have that however to see the big blue sky, I believe its in particle or loadscs file.. I have everything else installed.
When Windows initially wouldn't start, we chose to do a backup of files, I do think my complete game I had is on there. going to check, but like I said, I'm back, GTA works, halljuhla!!
