Title: Utility van missions
Post by: TheSandman on August 27, 2014, 15:09
I dont know how i thought this up as well  but, anyway.

Utility van/trailer, its a rare car, why not have a use for it, its just BEGGING for a mission type.

Utility guy, technician, w/e you want to call the class. Buy one, rent/find a van, /work, theres two ways i thought this up.
Either you go to one house/business (make a use for cluckin bell/casinos/etc) and go to the door, mission passed. Low pay obviously, like van missions)
Or you could have a chain of missions, like fixing gas/water/power at several businesses or houses in a chain, and get a bigger pay.

Bigger bonus if player is using the utility trailer as well? Maybe a free one when you do 500? (like stretch/dumper).

Ahh two crappy suggestions, lets see where this goes :>

+1. Nice idea!  Actually I also thought of it but then I thought that someone might have already posted it so never tried posting another one!  Anyway nice concept of both Firetruck and this one too. Would be really nice to do some new achievements which will make CT look more alive like never before

I like this one as well, but you should increase it's top speed, with only 90km/h it's gonna take a while.

You cant increase its top speed, thats only possible by mods.

Timeconsuming son of a female dog job that will be, the topspeed isn't classified as topspeed, more like snailturtlespeed.

I like the fact there could be an use for it, and it would be something new added to the server that is noticeable, except for random road maintenance time to time.

You can ;) but its buggy. Looks like a speedhack. It's also not a race to complete X missions before Y. This is the exact reason why i rarely convoy anymore. People expect you to race point to point instead of just driving because its fun watching Dobby crash all the time

I liked this suggestion at first, until i saw it'd cost 700k for the van + trailer

You could always change it to a reasonable price, since the vehicle would actually have a use.

I like the idea of fixing gas/water/electricity at houses.

And about the utility trailer, i remember when i had one that when you attach the trailer to your Van the speed will be lowered to something like 60kph instead of the 90kph.

Ahh what about fixing speed traps too?  Although they won't be broken obviously since truckers will get unnecessary advantage of that. Instead it will be just broken for the player who is doing machnic class aka utility trailer class? Coz speed traps are all over the CT and they need repair too!

That wouldn't work, players would be parking their vehicle in the middle of the road to fix a speedtrap, or they would be on foot on the road fixing it, either way it could cause accidents

Hopefully common sense would be to park to the side and go on foot use a cmd like /fixitem or /maintainence and if people break the rules of blocking then admins and mods will enforce appropriately

Well Shane explained it all ! but can't there be a temporary beacon/road sign for the the time being until its fixed. Or like in /mapinfo it would show that there's been a maintainence in this/that road. I think it will hardly take 1m-2min to fix them up and the one doing utility can stop until the road is clear aka no one is comming that side ?

You must be mistaken if you think every player will park on the side of the road, people want to get it done fast, they will be parking as close as possible, then people driving along not paying much attention and drive into the player/their vehicle, possibly making the trucker lose their mission. It's just a recipe for disaster, and would create unrequired moderating (as you know there isn't always an admin/mod online) and it would be pretty foolish to punish someone for leaving a vehicle in the middle of the road.

Someone who leaves a vehicle in the middle of the road when they are using it at present regardless of I vehicle or not is blocking

I just drove the Van and the top speed of a utility van + trailer is 50kph and you need the whole south side of julius thruway to get from 40 kph to 50 kph.

Ergo a better reason for having a trailer to give you more money :D

It says that 2 minds think better than one, but what about of a full comunity. You are genius guys and here are such a lot of good ideas. Good Job!
I think that the problem with the utility van placed in the middle of the road is something that would not be such a big problem, becouse in time it will become an "unwrite" rule so playes will not stay with the car in the middle of the road ( of course we are talking here about the players which play for fun and not the others which play just to be one the best ) . So this way the vehicles in the middle of the road will be such common as ramming is. + while maintannace, player could write his position in chat so the others will slow down when are close to him.
What do you say about missions in the airport too, like change the light from the main track?

Well,i don't think so,when a player gets to fix a "x" object in the middle of the road it wouldn't take him more then like 5-10 seconds to fix it then he will lead to the next object he has to repair,so that isn't a big problem, what you told you is far from ramming,or breaking the rules, yes if he stays there just to block the road then he can get punished for that, but only for doing his job, nah. And about the other players, they have to notice him and slow down and pass him,it's not a big deal.
+1

Could be an interesting mission type. You could also make it "haul utility supplies from A to B" in which a utility trailer spawns, you attach it, and haul to destination...kind of like tow missions. Or you could repair items like people said. You must be on foot, walk into the red mission halo and do /repair. A text draw pops up showing % complete, kind of like fixing cars.

Or make it so that ppl can damage speedcamera's. And mechanics with utility van need to fix it.
But ofcourse damaging speedcamera's is only possible when there is a mechanic around.

perhaps
spawn as thief ("bad guy image here")
/vip object> crowbar> stand in red circle> message "speedcamera has been disabled" (must be VIP to get crowbar object) or X loads)maybe, maybe not)
[utility van worker] (like police radio) "speedcamera at rockshore west has been disabled, please repair(or some other kind of notification))"
[police] "xx name" is now wanted for vandalizing a speedcam

That's an advantage over other players Ethan.

I was thinking that we could tie in another suggestion (forgot the topic exactly) the speedcamera "film". It runs out, you have to maintain it, or it'll break. Perhaps if the speedcamera is broken it'll fine you more or somethin ;)
